Album Description:
American Idol winner David Cook is set to release his self-titled debut album on November 18th, 2008. Produced by Grammy winning Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock), David Cook is a quality album full with radio hits. Cook co-wrote 9 songs from his debut, along with songwriters like Chris Cornell, Brian Howes & Cathy Dennis. The 1st single "Light On" was co-written by one of rock music's most influential innovators, Chris Cornell, lead singer and songwriter for Soundgarden and Audioslave, and acclaimed producer / songwriter Brian Howes, who has worked with superstar rock bands such as Hinder and Puddle of Mudd.

Customer Reviews

Not bad for debut album
I am not one for buying American Idol cd's but this one caught my attention. He had more of a rock edge to his sound which I liked. It took me a couple times listening to the CD to appreciate each song. The first time around, they all sounded similar. Give it a chance like I did and you'll be a fan.

Sumthin's COOKing!
This is one of those albums where EVERY SONG IS AMAZING!

Hints of Nickleback and Daughtry tinged songs will make fans of both swarm to the kitchen to get a little taste of this album!

DECLARATION: Starts off quiet and then builds to a little more of a louder rocker anthem song.

HEROES: Another rocker song, with edgy guitars keeping rhythmn as that classic David Cook signature sound comes through.

LIGHT ON: Rock ballad about breakup and words I am sure we can all identify with. David explores his more raw scratchy voice, that we all love!

COME BACK TO ME: (my favorite) breakup song with the guy saying he will let her go to find herself and then she can 'come back to me'. Beautifully put together lyrics about love. I absolutely LOVE the break in the middle, where it builds up and the drums get a little solo! I rewound that part over and over! (it's around 2:24).

LIFE ON THE MOON: Deeper vocals on this one, very poppy song again, about relationships. Nothing really about what the title suggests!

BAR-BA-SOL: Wasn't that the name of a shaving cream?! Edgy guitars chew up this song. Chorus sounds like it is going to go off in the direction of cheesy harmonic song of the 80's, then edges off! A little rock-n-rollish.

MR. SENSITIVE: Effortless singing as always from David. He is just SO good! Held out note in the chorus, make this song one of the more 'quiet' rock songs.

LIE: A rock ballad, double vocals in harmony throughout the entire song. a nice easy-going song.

I DID IT FOR YOU: Anthemy song with a catchy chorus. This song didn't do much for me.

AVALANCHE: Again, another song with an interesting naturistic title! Slower, more acoustic sounding, especially in the beginning of the song.

PERMANENT: The only song that opens up with a piano on the album. Strings blend in and offer up a bare bones song with David's edgy power vocals cutting through this very beautiful ballad.

A DAILY ANTHEM: A bit of a strange song, where in the middle of the chorusy chorus crazy guitars come in and play random notes it seems. Definitely an 'anthem' song. Can you say "oh-oh-oh-oh", that is pretty much all you need to know for this song!

THE TIME OF MY LIFE: Probably thanking American Idol in this song! He should have ended the album with A Daily Anthem, considering how it ends. But oh well, I didn't produce this!

Who should buy it? AI fans, DC fans, Daughtry and Nickleback fans will love it too! It might be a little loud for some parents from the 50's, but modern day parents will love it!

waited so long
I watched him on Idol and picked David Cook as the winner from the get-go! This cd is a winner as well

This Whole CD is Good--Something for Everyone on it! #10
I gave this CD for Christmas stocking stuffers and as gifts at work and I had NO negative feedback from anyone! Very few CDs have songs on them that appeal to everyone at some level and this CD has it all. David Cook is a true artist for his generation. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves good, well written music.

Complete crap. Period!
If you're looking for music which is formulaic pop, indistinct and completely boring, then this is the album and singer for you. This CD gets one star because that is the lowest rating I could give it. I would prefer silence to this amplified version of music not suitable to be played in the background of a fast food commercial. Most people who read this review will not find it in agreement with their musical tastes (which is why they're even looking at David Cook's 'musick') and they will say that this review was "not useful", but that's because anybody who likes this pablum has zero musical taste in my not so humble opinion. This CD is complete crap. End of story.

Customer Reviews

Pink Is amazing
Have an artist like Pink go through a divorce and you are going to get quite the album.
I won't say I love every song on the album but it is most definitely a Funhouse ride through her recent life. Some of her vocals just blow you away.
If you like Pink you will really like this album.

This FUNHOUSE Is Short A Mirror Or Two
It's funny...Pink is sort of like a human Tootsie Pop. She would like us to believe that she's all tough and bada**, complete with a hard outer candy coating. Yet inside, as she grows older and matures, there's a soft center that reveals the true Pink.
Not as engrossing as 2006's I'M NOT DEAD, but certainly much better than 2003's image-over-content TRY THIS, FUNHOUSE showcases an artist at a crossroads...now nearing 30, it's obvious she wants to branch out and try new things, but a part of her is still reluctant to fully let go of the past. Consequently, she's once again working with most of the same producers as her last few albums, touching upon many of the same tricks and stylings.
The result? Much of FUNHOUSE has a rehashed feel to it, sort of a watered down, reheated version of I'M NOT DEAD. Don't get me wrong...it's a good album. But at this point in her career ~ particularly after the stunning brilliance of I.N.D. ~Pink should be striving for great.
Things start off strong with the wonderful "So What", a pop/rock gem with attitude to spare. Yeah, she's bad, and, yeah, she's in your face, but it's with a wink and a nudge. This is the sort of song that made Joan Jett a superstar twenty years ago, and Pink pulls it off just as well, if not better. A smart choice for a first single, she now has to find a way to hold onto this style, yet redefine and grow it as her own.
"Sober" is going to be a tougher sell as a second single. Darker, more somber, Pink peels away the layers here. Amid strong vocals, tight instrumentation and earthy lyrics ("I don't want to be the girl that has to fill the silence/The quiet scares me 'cause it screams the truth"), she bares her soul, unafraid to be blunt, sincere and direct. And more power to her!
"I Don't Believe You" is a gorgeous ballad. It's here that things really take off, that Pink proves she's a SINGER, first and foremost. Cushioned by nothing more than lovely guitar, bass and atmospheric strings (LOVE that cello!), Ms. Moore's vocals swoop and soar, all sweet, sexy and sad. Make no mistake about it...when she puts her mind to it and just does it, Pink is one of the best female vocalists of her generation!
"One Foot Wrong" has a nice groove to it, but Pink gets a bit lost in the cut. Shades of Alicia here, a little bit of Christina there, some generic rocker chick tossed into the mix around half way thru, this song could be cut by just about anyone. Almost every album has SOME filler on it, and this track is the first entry in that category for FUNHOUSE.
Far better is "Please Don't Leave Me", a fun slice of pop perfection. Anchored by a lilting pop/rock arrangement, Pink practically bleeds the simple, yet clever, lyrics: "How did I become so obnoxious?/What is it with you that makes me act like this?/I've never been this nasty." This is a smash single just waiting to happen, as well as one of Pink's best songs to date. Awesome!
Things take another step (or three) backwards with the bloated "Bad Influance." A silly little dance ditty that would have fit perfectly on TRY THIS, Pink comes across as more of a brainless poseur than as a serious artist. You can still have fun without presenting yourself as some sort of vapid musical Paris Hilton wannabe. Without a doubt, FUNHOUSE'S low point.
I also wasn't nuts about the disc's title track, at least not after my first listen or two...it just felt like an old No Doubt outtake, with Pink's vocal dropped in over Gwen Stefani's. But, I gotta say....between Tony Kanal's chugging bassline and Pink's sly, spirited vocal...well, it's grown on me (I'm still not crazy about the Joplinesque bridge, but I LOVE the "do, do, do's!"). Not great, but a good, solid album cut.
Much like "Dear Mr. President" off of I'M NOT DEAD, "Crystal Ball" displays a maturity far and above most of today's young pop stars. With it's gentle folk rock arrangement and earnest lead vocal, Pinks dances over some tender lyrics ("I'm learning to be brave in my beautiful mistakes", "Irony, irony/Is hating love, hating love/For what it does to me/What it's done to me/What it's done/Done"). A true gem.
"Mean" is another winner, but I wish Pink and her cronies had been a little more adventureous with the arrangement. The current straight rock one is O.K., but with more of a country flavored take....well, someone like Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert could have a HUGE hit with this song (I particularly love the lines "We opened up the wine and we just let it breathe/But we should've drank it down while it was still sweet/It all goes bad eventually").
The last quarter of FUNHOUSE is spotty at best. "It's All Your Fault" is another nice enough song, with a somewhat haunting arrangement, but it's been done (and better) elsewhere on the album, both lyrically and vocally, while "Ave Mary A" has a nice bit of a J.D. Fortune/INXS edge to it's vocal during the verses, but the chorus is too over the top and run of the mill. Once again, filler that Pink should have moved beyond at this point in her career.
"Glitter In The Air" is the best of the three. Pink's subdued, yet strong, vocal is backed only by piano and guitar, and the result is magical. It's in these bare-bone, totally honest moments that Pink now seems to be shining the most.
So...does Pink continue to grow by becoming a balladeer? No...I think she can continue to grow and stretch while still rocking out. I just think it would wise for her to A) work with some new (maybe female) producers, say Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys or Sheryl Crow for the new kids, June Millington and Joan Jett for the vets, and B) continue to go with her gut vs. what she thinks people expect from her. Maybe then she can fill in some of the empty rooms of this FUNHOUSE, not to mention any future endeavors. (As with all my reviews, I'm giving the disc an extra half a star for including the lyrics).

One of Her Best!
nothing will ever compare to how amazing Mizzundastood is but this cd it nearly perfect. only one song on the cd i don't love. i can't stop listening to the title track Funhouse as well as Sober and Bad Influence. If you like Pink you must have this cd in your collection!!!

Wow, what a Funhouse!!
I must say this album is my favourite album of this year, Funhouse has all sorts of emotion, which i admire, Pink draws you in to this Funhouse and takes you on a ride of her feelings, an what a hell of a ride it is!
For people that may think Funhouse is an all fun album THINK AGAIN, Funhouse is not all fun, do not expect 12 songs like So What, far from it!
But no matter what kinda song Pink does, she always seems to be able to make it catchy or relatable, or nearly most of time, both!.

The more uptempo songs are:

So What - Amazingly catchy! Has a great instrumental aswell, it sure did Deserve its No.1 spot in the charts!

Its All Your Fault - Another amazingly catchy and aggressive song, will most likely make you have your fists in the air trying to scream the vocals lol, this should be a single im sure it would be successful!

Boring (UK/Japan bonus track) - Its catchy, but im not to keen on this song, i was at first but i grew to dislike it...

Bad Influence - This song is sure to get you dancing or at least your feet moving, another amazingly catchy song!

Ave Mary A - Takes on world issues, Pink sings "We hate so fast an love too slow" and "Suicide bomber and a student shot" but the chorus sums it all up "Where did you go? Where did you go? How did you know to get out of a world gone mad!? Help me let go! of the chaos around me..."
This song is sure to get you thinking, Personally i love this song!

This Is How It Goes Down (bonus track) - Probably the worst song on the album in my opinion, i just don't like it, But it seems to be pretty popular with others.

Funhouse - Funky is one word to describe this song, as well as catchy! Its bound to get your body moving, a very good song!

The Midtempo songs are:

Please Don't Leave Me - The subject of the song is sad, but it will most definietely not depress you, with the "Da da da da's" and the cheerful beat, but the song is very relateable (as are most songs on this album) and you can hear the pain in Pink's voice.
Again another catchy song which should be a single!

Sober - Second single from the album, and what a very good choice it is! The song mainly consists of Drums, Guitar and strings, and also with Pink's strong vocals to top that the song is a strong single!

One Foot Wrong - Pink's strong vocals keep this song going, it feels like a mixture of genres, but it works well!

Mean - A country rock song, I think Pink does Country Rock very well! Personally i really like this song, and also the lyrics and Pink's vocals are shown strong here, Great song!

The downtempo songs are:

I Don't Believe You - Pink's most vunerable song to date, you can hear the pain in her voice, and is sure to make you tear up the first time you hear it (works better if you can relate). Amazing vocals!

Crystal Ball - An acoustic song, Its relaxing with a nice melody, Pink shows she is not scared of the future, probably my least favourite song (not including bonus tracks) but i do like the song.

Glitter In The Air - A simple piano love song with a touch of added guitar, Pink asks questions through most of the song "Have you ever looked fear in the face and said i just don't care?" "Have you ever hated yourself for staring at the phone?, your whole life waiting on that ring to prove your not alone". Again more great vocals!

To sum up Funhouse is one hell of a ride! Pink just sings about life (whats not to relate to?) admitingly its mostly about relationships but hey we can all relate to them!

Funhouse is a must buy in my opinion, There are not many albums that you find were you like all songs on it, but Funhouse is one of those rare albums were you do! My least favourite songs are the bonus tracks (which really are not part of the album) but i must say stay away if you just want 12 So What songs, cos im sorry to say it but you will be disappointed.

SHE IS SO HOT
BEING A BIG FAN OF PINK'S FOR A VERY LONG TIME. IT DOEN'T MATTER WHAT SHE SINGS I LOVE HER.

Her big break came in 1928 when she won a major role — as the doomed bad girl — in “Our Dancing Daughters,” a film that featured a wild Charleston by Crawford and propelled them both to stardom. It spawned two sequels, “Our Modern Maidens” and “Our Blushing Brides.” Page and Crawford were in all three films.

Page’s daughter Linda Sterne said her mother had been good friends with Marion Davies and Jean Harlow, and for about six months in the 1930s lived as a guest in William Hearst’s massive castle on the Southern California coast.

“She was the best mother I could have,” Sterne said. “She was wonderful.”

In 1928, the New York-born Page starred opposite Chaney in “While the City Sleeps.”

The following year, she was co-star of “The Broadway Melody,” the 1929 backstage tale of two sisters who love the same man. The film made history as the first talkie to win the best-picture Oscar and was arguably the first true film musical.

In his 1995 book “A Song in the Dark: The Birth of the Musical Film,” author Richard Barrios reserved much of his praise for Bessie Love, the veteran actress who played the other sister. But he called Page “intensely likable — sincere, well-meaning, endearing, in much the same fashion as Ruby Keeler several years later — and, of course, quite beautiful.”

Variety wrote in 1929 that Page “is also apt to bowl the trade over with a contribution that’s natural all the way, plus her percentage on appearance. … She can’t dance, (but) the remainder of her performance is easily sufficient to make this impediment distinctly negligible.”

Among Page’s other films were two of Keaton’s sound films, “Free and Easy” in 1930, and “Sidewalks of New York” in 1931; “Night Court,” with Walter Huston in 1932; and “The Easiest Way” in 1931, in which Clark Gable had a small role.

For a short time Page was married to composer Nacio Herb Brown, who wrote songs for “The Broadway Melody,” but the marriage was annulled within a year, Sterne said.

Page stopped acting in 1936 when she fell in love with Herschel House, a Navy aviator. The couple married six weeks later and Page happily adapted to life as an officer’s wife, hosting many parties at their home in Coronado, a city peninsula in the San Diego Bay, Sterne said.

The couple had two daughters, Linda and Sandra.

After House died in 1991, Page went on to return to films. In 1994, she appeared in the suspense thriller “Sunset After Dark.”

Most recently, she had a cameo in the horror film “Frankenstein Rising,” due out later this year.

A 4.0 earthquake centered in Alamo near the Calaveras Fault shook the San Francisco Bay Area Friday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake at 9 p.m., four miles northwest of Danville and seven miles south of Concord in Contra Costa County. It was felt as a sharp rumble that lasted about seven seconds. Two aftershocks, measuring 1.3, struck shortly after.

The light quake halted BART trains for about five minutes. According to the USGS., the quake had a depth of 10.1 miles, and residents as far away as San Jose and Stockton reported feeling a jolt.

“Wow! I was surprised that was only a 4.0. I felt the jerk sitting on my chair,” said a woman who lives in Oakley. She said the power went out for a second, but there were no other noticeable effects.

“We have not received any reports of injuries or property damage,” Contra Costa Sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said. “We all felt it, though.”

USGS seismologist David Oppenheimer said the quake originated on a nameless fault, which is perpendicular to the Calaveras Fault, that was last active in 1990. “In April 1990 it (was active) for three weeks,” he said. “It had hundreds of earthquakes and caused structural damage.”

Local police agencies said they received no reports of injuries or damage caused by Friday’s temblor. “This is a good reminder that we are in an earthquake country,” Contra Costa sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said. “People should have an emergency kit and a plan.”

POTI, Georgia (AFP) — Russia criticised the United States on Friday for sending a navy flagship to a key Georgian port, while US Vice President Dick Cheney raised the spectre of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Washington says the USS Mount Whitney, which dropped anchor off the Black Sea port of Poti, is there to deliver vital aid to Georgian refugees but a senior Russian official suggested it might be serving military purposes.

“Naval ships of that class can hardly deliver a large amount of aid,” foreign ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko told journalists, underlining instead the ship’s sophisticated surveillance technology.

The USS Mount Whitney has arrived in the Black Sea port of Poti to deliver vital aid to Georgian refugees

Since last month’s war with Georgia, Russian forces have been deployed at checkpoints near Poti, a strategically important port on the Black Sea that was bombed by Russian jets, and they are still patrolling there from time to time.

Russia sent hundreds of tanks and troops into Georgian territory on August 8 in what it says was a response to a Georgian offensive to regain control of South Ossetia from Moscow-backed separatists.

Moscow withdrew the bulk of its forces from Georgia under a French-brokered ceasefire agreement, but it has kept thousands of troops deployed in Georgia saying it needs security guarantees before it pulls out completely.

Russia last week recognised South Ossetia and Abkhazia, another breakaway region, as independent states, drawing fierce condemnation from Georgia and many Western countries.

As Russia sought to win support for its intervention at a summit of ex-Soviet states in Moscow, Cheney wrapped up a tour aimed at bolstering key US allies in the region.

In Kiev, he reaffirmed US support for Ukraine’s NATO ambitions and, in a thinly-veiled reference to Russia, said the former member of the Soviet Union should never fear invasion.

“We believe in the right of men and women to live without the threat of tyranny, economic blackmail or military invasion or intimidation. Ukraine’s best hope to overcome these threats is to be united,” he said.

Ukraine is in the grip of a political crisis, with bitter infighting between the Western-oriented president and prime minister sharpened by divisions over ties with Russia following its war with Georgia last month.

The squabbling highlights deep differences between the mainly Russian-speaking southeast of Ukraine and the predominantly Ukrainian-speaking northwest of the country, more oriented towards integration with the West.

European officials have suggested Ukraine could be the next flashpoint for tensions between Russia and the West, particularly because of tensions over a Russian naval base in the southern Ukrainian port of Sevastopol.

Like Georgia, Ukraine has angered Moscow by bidding to join NATO and the EU.

In Tbilisi on Thursday, Cheney accused Russia of an “illegitimate” invasion to redraw the map of Georgia and unveiled a one-billion dollar (701-million euro) aid package to help reconstruction.

His trip to Georgia coincided with an announcement by the OSCE that it had sent military observers in a buffer zone between Russian and Georgian troops for the first time since the conflict.

Meanwhile, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was hoping the leaders of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan meeting in Moscow would show the world that Moscow has its backers.

Russia has so far failed to persuade close regional allies to join it in recognising the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, a move some fear could complicate other territorial disputes in the region.

So far only distant Nicaragua — an old Cold War battleground — has followed Russia’s lead.

Russian leaders have jetted round the region, with Medvedev announcing closer military ties with Tajikistan and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin unveiling a new pipeline deal in energy-rich Uzbekistan.

Other polls have failed to show the same tightening of the race found by CBS. Neither the Gallup nor Rasmussen daily tracking polls have registered a significant drop in Obama’s support from his post convention bounce numbers.

In the 2008 presidential voting heats up, much is made in the media of presidential polls. One hears the names Zogby, Gallup and Rasmussen, tossed about in commentary by television reporters. Presidential polls are held on a near daily basis of late and approval ratings could give an edge to projecting which presidential candidates will emerge as the victors in November. Voters don’t need to wait for the news to rating report, however. Presidential Polling information is available on the Internet for interested voters.

Rasmussen Reports: Rasmussen Reports offers presidential polling information on their web site. The information provided on the site includes a polling history back through June and show an edge for Barack Obama, currently reporting that McCain trails Obama by 4%, leaving the candidates locked at 47% / 43%. The polling is done via nightly telephone interviews with prospective voters and includes figures that include results with leaner and non-leaner. The polls are released at 9:30 A.M. each day and interested politics watchers can subscribe to receive the latest poll results via email through a link on the Rasmussen Report site.

It was billed as the ultimate smackdown, and it certainly promised to be a wonk vs. wacko match: the cerebral, conciliatory Senator Barack Obama versus Bill O’Reilly, Fox News Channel’s most irascible, combative anchor: a commentator who calls liberals “loons” and “pinheads” and on Thursday’s show described reporters scrutinizing Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as “sniveling, left-wing, wine-drinking, brie-eating.”

Bill O’Reilly of Fox News with Senator Barack Obama on Thursday, the first of four segments on “The O’Reilly Factor.” (Fox News)

The topic was national security, and their tone was civil, but thankfully not too civil: Mr. O’Reilly, as is his wont, spoke brusquely, interrupted, argued and didn’t let his guest off the hook. He told Mr. Obama he had “bloviated” in parts of his convention speech, but congratulated him on his early opposition to the war, saying he had been “perspicacious.”

Mr. O’Reilly then demanded that his guest admit that he was wrong to oppose the military surge. Mr. Obama didn’t give in; he repeated previous qualifications but did go farther, and less equivocally, than before in acknowledging that the surge had worked. “It’s succeeded beyond our wildest dreams,” he said. Mr. Obama is known for the subtlety and nuance of his answers; Mr. O’Reilly has no patience for either. And accordingly, they had a bracing exchange, in what was the first of four segments to be spread over four days.

Mr. Obama has talked to Fox News reporters quite a few times since the primaries began: he sat down with Chris Wallace in April. But this was his first appearance on “The O’Reilly Factor,” and its host has had a prickly relationship with the Obama campaign. Mr. O’Reilly has had to apologize for an unfortunate turn of phrase when discussing Michelle Obama, played videos of the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. early and often, and is still underscoring Mr. Obama’s association with William Ayers, a member of the violent Weather Underground in the 1960s (a topic Mr. O’Reilly gleefully said would be debated in Monday’s segment).
