In a touching story, 8-year-old Reece Fleming “married” special friend Elleanor Purgslove the day before he succumbed to leukemia.
Reece was diagnosed with the fatal blood cancer in 2004 and battled his condition for 4 years. However when doctors told him that he just had a few weeks to live, then he proposed to his school sweetheart Elleanor at a laser tag party.
Reece’s mother Lorraine Fleming and his stepfather Mick Thompson tried to fulfill all his wishes before he died.
“Him and Ellie had been ’special friends’ for a couple of years but then they broke up,” Mrs Fleming told The Daily Telegraph. “We said we’d have a pirate party, and Ellie came. She went to visit Reece a few times in hospital as well.”
The “wedding” took place July 4 and included rings, a stand-in vicar and a certificate. Reece died the next day at his home in Mackworth, Derby.
