Palm officially announced its new Treo Pro mobile phone. The handset runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro providing the familiar look and feel of Windows and gives you mobile versions of commonly used Microsoft Office applications — including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The handset also includes a large color touch screen that allows navigation of the handset without scrolling through menus. The phone includes a complete organizer that synchronizes with Outlook and allows you to accept meeting invites and more. The phone is equipped with GPS and offers WiFi connectivity providing instant-on, one-touch access to local hotspots.
The Treo Pro accepts push e-mail from Microsoft Outlook and allows you to view graphics and links in HTML e-mails. The phone can also check Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo mail accounts. Web surfing is done with Internet Explorer Mobile at wireless broadband speeds using UMTS/HSDPA connectivity. One good feature that the Treo Pro offers that other popular handsets — like the iPhone 3G — lack is the ability to be used as a tethered modem.
The Treo Pro features Windows Media Player Mobile allowing users to listen to music and podcasts as well as watch video clips on the phones touch screen. The handset also features a built-in camera and onboard memory is expandable with microSDHC cards up to 32GB in size.
The Treo Pro uses a Qualcomm MSM7201 400MHz processor and the display has a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. The radio inside the phone can operate on HSDPA/UMTS/EDGR/GPRS/GSM networks. The radio is tri-band UMTS operating on 850/1900/2100MHz frequencies and quad-band GSM operating on 850/900/1800/1900MHz frequencies.
The Wi-Fi radio inside the phone is 802.11b/g and supports WPA, WPA2, and 801.1x authentication. Bluetooth technology used in the phone is version 2.0+ enhanced data rate. The device has 256MB of onboard memory with 100MB of that available to the user along with 128MB of RAM. The camera the phone features is a 2-megapixel unit with 8x digital zoom and can capture video.
The 1500mAh lithium-ion battery is removable and rechargeable. The battery provides up to five hours of talk time and 250 hours on standby. Dimensions of the phone are 4.49-inches x 2.36-inches x 0.53-inches and the phone weighs 4.69 ounces.
The Treo Pro was leaked onto the internet earlier this week.
