Coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday that Curtis would go under the knife and that the recovery period will definitely keep him out of the Eagles’ season opener against the St. Louis Rams. Reid said Curtis will return this season but should be out “for a while.”
Curtis, who signed with the Eagles last year as a free agent from the Rams, led the team in receiving in 2007 with 77 catches for 1,110 yards and six touchdowns. His absence means that underwhelming options like Hank Baskett, Greg Lewis and Reggie Brown will now vie for the Eagles’ No. 1 receiver spot.
How will the Curtis injury affect the Eagles’ chances moving forward? Donovan McNabb is listed at 30/1 to lead the NFL in passing yards during the 2008 regular season - but can he do it without a healthy Curtis?
