DETROIT (AP) - Crews are working to restore power to about 250,000 customers across Michigan following thunderstorms across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula that were blamed for the deaths of at least six people.
Detroit Edison says about 136,000 of about 200,000 affected customers were without service.
Consumers Energy says about 115,000 out of more than 300,000 customers affected by storms that first hit the state Friday were without power.
Hard hit were the Kalamazoo and Lansing areas.
The storms also are blamed for widespread property damage and the loss of electrical service to more than 515,000 homes and businesses. Winds of up to 80 miles per hour toppled power lines and trees up to two feet in diameter.
Flood warnings were in effect early today for parts of the state.
